The Reprise Series - The Turning Tide & Driftwood

Binnacle: Where are you now and what is the view like?

De Lacy: I am in Co Cork, Ireland and I am looking at my noticeboard which has on it some of my son's drawings, he is only six but he is a prodigious talent! A carved wooden fish (done by my husband when he was still at school), a calendar of New Zealand and a picture of Russell Crowe - all perfectly healthy stuff really...

Binnacle: How would you describe yourself in ten words of less?

De Lacy: That is too much like mental gymnastics for me. Why use ten words when forty will suffice?

Binnacle: Which of your childhood books inspired you the most?

De Lacy: 'Anne of Green Gables' being a redhead, it sort of resonated with me. Also 'Stig of The Dump' made a huge impact.

Binnacle: Who is your literary hero/heroine?

De Lacy: Patrick OBrian's superbly crafted Captain Jack Aubrey.

Binnacle: Who/what is your greatest passion?

De Lacy: History. The Regency period and the Romans really float my boat. I can take or leave the Victorians and would have like to have slapped Oliver Cromwell's legs.

Binnacle:Who/what is your Bete Noir?

De Lacy: Drivers who do not indicate at roundabouts and so-called resealable packets of ham.

Binnacle: What is the best piece of writing advice you ever received?

De Lacy: Once upon a time is not always the best opening line.

Binnacle: What is the best piece of writing advice you could give?

De Lacy: Yore spelchicker is yaw bestist freind!

Binnacle: What are you reading at the moment?

De Lacy: 'The Girl With The Pearl Earring' - I am prostrate with awe and pea-green with envy, the prose, the style, it's complete perfection.
